Total India launches Centre of Excellence to train Heavy Commercial Vehicle drivers on Defensive Driving Skills and Road Safety
At TotalEnergies, safety is a core value. We aspire to be recognized as a benchmark for safety standards in the industry. Based on this mind-set, our overarching goal is to build a positive safety culture where everyone in the organization; from managers and employees to partner companies and local stakeholders follow safety as an integral part of the processes guiding their everyday actions.
Keeping the above objective in mind, Total India with its implementing partner, Sambhav Foundation, has set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Bhiwandi, Maharashtra to train Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) drivers on Defensive Driving Skills and Road Safety.
Total’s Centre of Excellence is a state of the art training centre set up with the purpose of disseminating knowledge to all the participants to achieve excellence in the field of Road Safety. In its first year, the centre aims to impart a Comprehensive Road Safety Training Program with theoretical and practical training to 1800 truck drivers.
The state of the art centre, with a dedicated classroom for theoretical training and a separate simulator room for practical training, is spread across 3400 sq. feet where the focus of the design and layout has been on ensuring simplicity in design and ensuring health & safety standards.
The training consists of a meticulously designed eight-hour module covering both theory and practical sessions.
Theory sessions aim to train drivers on key aspects of the vehicle such as importance of seat belts, driving techniques to build defensive driving skills as well as key measures to take to avoid accidents. Further, the practical sessions make use of a state of the art simulator. The simulator sessions aim to equip drivers with key skills required for defensive driving on difficult terrains and weather conditions as well as identify and correct mistakes while driving in a safe and controlled environment.
In addition to the road safety training program, the centre will be used to conduct eye camps, health camps and other community development activities.
The efforts are focused on preventing occupational and transport accidents, and on preventing major accidents and accidental spills.
